Acura NSX

Honda’s first mid-engine sports car, the NSX, went on sale in 1990. The NSX was the world’s first mass production vehicle to feature a complete aluminum monocoque body, achieving a very light vehicle weight of 1365 kg (specification for the 1991 American manual transmission model).

Starting with the 4-wheel double wishbone suspension, the characteristics of the chassis were fine-tuned with the assistance of the late Ayrton Senna through test drives at Nurburgring. It is a well-known story that the layout of the Takasu test course was designed by Honda based on the experiences at Nurburgring from that time.

NSX ensures occupant comfort and sufficient trunk room, which have been neglected in conventional super sports cars, and surprisingly, it even came in a configuration with an automatic transmission and power steering. In America, which is the largest market for the NSX, approx. 9,600 vehicles were sold as the “Acura NSX” until production ceased in 2005.
