The first true racing circuit in Japan, Suzuka Circuit was inspired by the words of the founder of Honda Motor Company, My. Soichiro Honda: I want a place for racing. Established in 1962, Suzuka Circuit is now home to almost all of Japans most popular races, including SUPER GT, the 1000km Suzuka Endurance Race, Formula Nippon, the D1 Grand Prix, and the Suzuka 8 Hour Endurance Race for motorbikes. Furthermore, Formula 1 Grand Prix is set to return to the Suzuka in 2009 and is planned to be held on alternating years with Fuji Speedway. It is rare for a circuit to have an overhead crossing and figure eight layout, and Suzuka is popular with and loved by many famous drivers.
