TVR Tuscan Speed 6
Located with headquarters in Blackpool in England, TVR already has a half-century of history.
Almost all of the sports cars that TVR has created have been front-engine rear-drive vehicles consisting of fibre-reinforced polymer outer panels fitted over a steel pipe frame, and the Tuscan Speed 6 is no exception.
There has been a common trend of referring to the TVR brand as a backyard builder. This originates from the fact that for many years the same company sourced engines, transmissions, and other parts of the drive-train from Ford, Rover, and other companies, and had a low production volume where each car was virtually handmade. However, from the middle of the 90s, TVR switched to an engine they had made themselves and the number of vehicles produced also increased dramatically (with base production volume being 2000 a year) quickly moving TVR out of the backyard builder realm.
The Speed 6 model name originates from the 4L inline six-cylinder DOHC unit manufactured in-house by TVR. This unit has a racing-car like design with features such as six-valve throttle, dry sump, and a four-valve head that increases the amount of valve lift using swing arms.
The maximum output of 360 ps is almost too much for an 1100 kg vehicle, and it has a huge amount of torque, at 42.9 kg-m. In addition to the unconventional interior and exterior design, the unique flavour produced by details such as doors that open and close by pressing a protrusion under the door mirrors, are attractions that are no longer seen in modern super sports cars. Combined with the raw feel of the steering with no electronic augmentations, this vehicle is truly “uncommon” among the current generation.
