Nissan Z-car Version S (Z33)

The symbol of the Nissan sports mind, the Z-car, was dropped from the Nissan lineup in the summer of 2000. When CEO Carlos Ghosn became aware of the importance of it's existence, however, he gave the green light for behind-the-doors development of the next model, and in July 2002 the rejuvenated Z-car was born in the form of the Z33.

The basic framework was the FM platform that had previously been employed by the V35 Skyline. Although the engine that was mounted was the 3.5L V6 DOHC VQ35DE that is also shared with the Skyline, the Z-car was the first to offer specs of 280 ps and 37.0 kgm torque, matched with a 6-speed manual transmission.

As the words of the lead developer “constantly continuing to advance” say, improvements were unceasingly added to the Z-car every year. One major innovation amongst these was achieved with a tweak to the engine in January 2007. The engine was refitted to the new generation VQ35HR, enhancing the output to 313 ps. As if to brag about this change, a bulge was also added to the central section of the front engine hood.

Thanks to these changes, the Z-car has once again become a truly mesmerizing sports car. With 5 years having passed since going on sale, this car continues to shine as the market leading Japanese sports car.
