It has been 5 years since the release of the Atenza, which is also known as the Mazda 6, and the time has come for the release of the second generation.

Based on the development concept of "the best high-speed long tourer", the major feature of the Atenza is that it is designed to make touring for long periods at high-speeds more comfortable by reducing the road noise. Although the body has been enlarged to improve passenger comfort, the car also delivers world-class improvements in aerodynamic performance with a Cd number of 0.27. In particular, the installation of newly developed horseshoe-shaped deflectors in the undercarriage, directly in front of the front wheels, has delivered a large effect on both reducing undercarriage drag and increasing air-flow to the brakes. The air conditioner and audio controls have been brought together on the steering wheels to allow driver control without sacrificing safe driving.

The engine, called the MZR2.5 is a newly developed 2.5 litre straight-four with a benchmark of 170 ps that is combined witha 6-speed manual, 5-speed automatic, or 4WD-specific 6 speed automatic transmission, depending on the grade.
