Audi R8 4.2 FSI R tronic
The origins of the R8 can be traced back to the “Le Mans Quattro” concept car that was released in 2003. Although the name of the production vehicle was changed to R8, the vehicle originates from the prototype racer that had a string of wins in the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
For the body, the chassis boasts Audi’s ASF (Audi Space Frame) built of aluminium composites, and the body shell alone only weighs a mere 210 kg. The undercarriage is completely covered except for one section, and when the speed exceeds 100km/h, the rear spoiler gently rises to reduce lifting forces. The middle section of the rear spoiler has a lattice shape that has no effect on the aerodynamic properties of the spoiler when it is deployed, but that has the effect of diffusing the heat from the exhaust when the spoiler is retracted.
The engine is a 4.2L V8 with direct injection that generates 420 ps. The drive system employs Audi’s flagship Quattro full time 4WD system to deliver maximum power. A viscous coupler is used in the central differential, and it is a variable system that distributes 10 to 35% of the total power to the front wheels.
Furthermore, only Audi incorporates the latest technology into a super car, with dampers that contain a mixture of magnetic particles called MagneRide, and the R tronic transmission which changes speed hydraulically. The unique exterior has not faded in style since the time of the Le Mans Quattro, and this is one car that is greatly anticipated as a new star of the super car league.
